Craftsmanship

Built by hand. Built to last.

Behind every Brydgewood staircase is one craftsman who genuinely loves the work — and holds every cut, joint and finish to the same standard he’d want in his own home.

John Wilcox, owner and craftsman at Brydgewood Stair & Rail

The Maker

John Wilcox

“I love what I do. I’ve spent years in the stair and rail business — and I love that on every job I get to create something. From a simple square spindle to a curved and twisted high-profile maple stair rail, or from a utility-grade stair to an enormous 15-rise oak open-rise stair.”

After more than two decades in woodworking, John brought Brydgewood Stair & Rail to Pembroke and the Ottawa Valley — “such a great place to live and work, such a great community.” Whatever the project, he’s grateful to be doing this work, and hopes to for many years.

    Hand-selected materials

Every board is chosen for grain, colour and stability — oak, maple and other species suited to Ottawa Valley homes. Nothing goes into your stair that we wouldn’t put in our own.

  2. 02

    Built & fitted precisely

Stairs are fabricated in the shop, then fitted and installed on site with careful attention to every landing, return and reveal — so the result looks like it grew there.

  3. 03

    Finished for generations

From the first template to the final coat, we hold ourselves to the highest standard, so your staircase not only looks exceptional — it lasts for generations.

Where the work happens

Newels turned on the lathe, treads templated to the millimetre, railings dry-fitted before they ever leave the shop. These photos are straight from real Brydgewood builds — this is what your project looks like along the way.
